Officer's Sword Officer's Sword

Important as a symbol and as a personal weapon, a sword or other accouterment was often presented to an officer or non-commissioned officer as a sign of rank and respect. Swords came in a variety of patterns and styles, ranging from the purely utilitarian to presentation pieces that were intricately engraved in gold and silver, even sometimes adorned with jewels.
