The Great Rebellion The Great Rebellion

A publishing company in Hartford, Connecticut, offered a two-volume history of the Civil War while it was still being fought, in 1862. Their salesman carried his binding samples and his order book into the White House and got the President, and most of his Cabinet members, as well as many other East-Coast luminaries, to sign up for their personal copies. Here Lincoln signs along with his secretary of state William Seward, and his postmaster-general Montgomery Blair.
