Flint’s Survey Book Flint's Survey Book

Originally published in 1804, Abel Flint's A System of Geometry and Trigonometry: Together with a Treatise on Surveying would have been an important resource for anyone looking to enter the field of surveying. When John Calhoun was appointed Sangamon County surveyor in March 1833, he quickly offered Lincoln a position as deputy surveyor of the county. To prepare himself for this new career, Lincoln read several books on surveying, including Flint's.
